So you find it challenging to stay away from the white and refined sugars? Rethink sweet; you can now enjoy real sweetness with these natural sweeteners. The following sweeteners are found in nature are not demineralized or processed in fact they offer many nutritional benefits.

This is the most simple and beneficial health transition you can make. Do sweet the right way without the health hazards or weight gain with these amazing sweeteners. They all offer unique taste, flavors and nutritional profiles.

Coconut Sugar

Comes from the flower buds of the coconut trees it’s the most natural and pure in terms of sugar, you can consume. It’s very low glycemic making it safe for diabetics and those with insulin resistance. Coconut palm sugar has a high mineral content. It’s particularly high in potassium, magnesium, zinc and iron. It’s also a natural source of vitamins B1, B2, B3, B6 and C.

Raw Honey

Raw honey hasn’t been processed, filtered, heated, or pasteurized. The unadulterated honey is more than just a natural sweetener. It’s referred as a “functional food” which is incredibly healing and nutritious containing enzymes, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, antioxidants, and phytonutrients. Raw honey has been used for thousands of years internally and topically it has anti-microbial, anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and anti-inflammatory properties. It’s such a powerful, healing substance and an effective remedy for many ailments. It’s even mentioned as an important food in the bible, “Go up to the land flowing with milk and honey” Exodus 33:3.

If you’ve never had raw honey, oh are you in for a treat. After you’ve had the real thing you won’t want to have the processed and heated icky stuff!

Stevia

Stevia comes from a naturally sweet plant/herb with the name of Stevia Rebaudiana. This is the best natural sweetener for those suffering with diabetics. It doesn’t affect blood sugar levels in any way. It also provides many plant nutrients known as phytochemicals. Make sure you don’t get the stevia that comes in a white powder, that’s an extract and has been highly processed. Get the whole leaf green powder stevia, which is made with the pure stevia, leaves, no fillers or binders. Stevia is a non-carbohydrate sweetener, may assist in weight loss. It’s a non-glycemic food and contains nearly zero calories. Use it for baking, elixirs, smoothies, and raw recipes.

Dates

Dates are like nature’s candy. Need I say more?! They are rich in dietary fiber, iron, potassium, manganese, copper, and magnesium. Dates provide about 23 calories per date, they are calorically dense so you don’t need too much as they are satisfying and oh so sweet.

Lucuma

Lucuma powder is made from the exotic lucuma fruit native to the Andes. This Peruvian fruit is so versatile and highly recognized in the culinary world. Lucuma is high in antioxidants, has a healthy dose of carbohydrates, minerals, fiber and other nutrients such as calcium, iron, beta-carotene, niacin, zinc, and B vitamins. It may help with blood circulation, improve cholesterol levels, strengthen the immune system, bone formation and reduce appetite. It’s a low-glycemic fruit and can add to raw desserts, smoothies, and elixirs. I’m categorizing Lucuma as a natural sweetener because of it incredibly unique flavors of maple-like, custard-caramel flavor notes. You really just have to experience it for yourself to know what I mean.

Tip: Enjoy the versatility of nature’s perfect sweeteners. Use as a condiment. Don’t over do it. Be wise about it! And dump the guilt!
